JAVA Developer

Position Requirement/

Responsibilities:

SCI is experiencing  fast, dynamic growth and seeks a highly motivated, Java Developer to join the team. Candidate will work with other SCI applications developers in analyzing requirements, developing and integrating appropriate technical solutions, and delivering and maintaining business support capabilities for a government customer. The Developer is responsible for working with customer and internal staff to identify and prioritize tasks as well as providing analysis and recommendations for the appropriate technical solutions to customer requirements. This individual must promote a collaborative work environment with the other developers and provide task analysis and technical insight to help develop and deliver the needed capabilities. This person must be familiar with systems analysis and process design, and a range of technologies (see desired skills) to ensure delivery of optimal solutions. The Developer must be able to effectively communicate task progress, analysis, recommendations, schedules, as well as technical and process issues and their resolution to a wide variety of customers ranging from senior managers to other contractor technical personnel. As a member of the Applications Development team, s/he develops and/or maintains: Web-enabled capabilities, custom applications, and legacy systems, as well as integrating and hosting COTS packages. You will also assist staff in defining and tracking project requirements, plans, and schedules. Attend program reviews and other project control gates, as necessary.

All applicants should have at least 4 years experience developing web applications (Examples: J2EE Servlets/JSP, Javascript, Apache+Tomcat, HTML, Oracle Application Express) with some relational database experience (Examples: ORACLE, SQL Server, MySQL, etc), as well as experience with XML technologies (XSLT, XSL-FO, XForms, Schema, SVG). Experience using SQL in system implementation is required; design and use of triggers, stored procedures, indexes, views, and transactions is desired. Experience in systems analysis and engineerin g, as well as software testing or test-driven development is highly desirable. Applet, browser-based, and general graphical user interface design experience is desired. Knowledge of and experience with web usability and design principles and Section 508 compliance is highly desirable. System ( MS-Windows, Unix, GNU/Linux, or related) and/or LAN administration experience a plus.

Required: Excellent problem-solving and communication skills (both verbal and written) are required; ability to work independently and as a team member is required. The ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing business requirements is required. Minimal local travel in the Wash, DC metro area is required.
