MCLEAN, VA (March 6, 2012) — Lynette Spano, President and CEO of SCI Consulting Services, Inc., was recently interviewed by ABC 7 co-anchor, Alison Starling, for the popular “Working Women” news series.

“Working Women” highlights extraordinary women in the Washington DC metropolitan area who use their considerable talents and energy to make a positive difference in the lives of others.

“It was thrilling to meet Alison Starling and to take part in this outstanding news program honoring the many ways women are making a difference at home, at work and in their communities,” said Spano.

The news series recognizes that the Washington, D.C. area is home to many extraordinary women who are achieving excellence in their personal and professional lives while making the world around them a better place.

Ms. Spano is among the most successful female and minority business leaders in the country and has also distinguished herself as someone who gives back to her community in meaningful ways.

Her most recent charitable effort is the creation of Stars, Stripes, & Hearts, Inc., a national nonprofit organization that supports culturally and linguistically competent, evidence-based treatment programs for Latino/Hispanic military service members and their families adversely affected by the invisible wounds of war.

MCLEAN, VA (January 26, 2012) – President and CEO of SCI Consulting Services, Inc., Lynette Spano, will provide expert advice and inspiration to the Virginia business community on January 31, 2012, as the keynote speaker during the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (VAHCC) forum on Business Opportunities with the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The event also includes a panel discussion on procurement opportunities in the Commonwealth led by Will Vehrs of the Virginia Department of Business Assistance, Mark Cartwright of Supplier Diversity for the Commonwealth of Virginia, Anna Urman of the Women’s Business Center of Northern Virginia and Mike Jones of Capital One and the SBA.

“The goal of this event is to inform people on business opportunities with the state of Virginia. We’ve chosen our panel of speakers to provide a wide variety of expertise on this topic. Also, we hope to motivate attendees with Ms. Spano’s own success story as a Hispanic business owner,” said Mary Sirvent, Northern Virginia Regional Director for the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

“This event will be a great opportunity for the local business leaders to connect with their peers, garner real-world advice from the panelists and to hear what I’ve learned as a minority and a female business owner in the highly-competitive arena of Federal IT contract procurement for the past 30 years,” says Spano.

Lynette Spano started SCI Consulting Services, Inc. in her mother’s basement in Brooklyn, NY in the 1980s. Under her leadership, SCI has grown into a $50 million dollar Federal IT consulting company, recognized as one of the most successful female and minority-owned enterprises in America.

The event, free to VAHCC Members, is from 7:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., with breakfast provided. Attendees may register online at VAHCC.com or call (703) 790-0303.

Spano is the first woman to join the Leadership Council and will bring a fresh perspective to challenges facing Virginia’s Hispanic Business Community

MCLEAN, VA (December 7, 2011) – Lynette Spano, Founder and President/CEO of SCI Consulting Services, Inc., a premier woman-owned business that provides mission-critical infrastructure and information technology services to the Federal government, is the first woman to join the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Leadership Council.

The Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Leadership Council is an invitation-only, high-visibility group of leaders who advance the interests and efforts of the Hispanic Business Community.

As the first woman to join the Leadership Council, Spano hopes to bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to the leadership body. “I am pleased to join such a distinguished group of business leaders whose individual and collective efforts have had such a positive impact on our community,” says Spano. “As the only Latina entrepreneur on the Leadership Council, I hope to bring some new ideas to the table that will further their efforts to effect positive change.”

Spano has won numerous awards for her entrepreneurial success and is recognized as one of the most influential female leaders and speakers in the Hispanic Business Community.

The Leadership Council arose out of a real need for a Hispanic voice and vision in Virginia politics and business. The purpose of the Council is to put its members in direct contact with the Virginia political elite to influence policy and decision-making by securing key committee and board appointments through direct contact with key political players.

In addition to securing appointments, the Leadership Council meets several times a year with high-ranking political leaders. Council Members will also be in contact with key business leaders from the mainstream community. By concentrating the efforts of Virginia’s leading Hispanic business leaders, the Council will have a powerful voice in Virginia politics and be better positioned to advance Hispanic business and social interests.

Each year, the AMAF recognizes a select group of outstanding Latina entrepreneurs during its national awards gala. This year’s gala took place last night at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C. Among the honorees at this prestigious event was SCI’s own Lynette Spano.

SCI Consulting Services, Inc., a $50 million dollar IT consulting company that Spano started out of her mother’s basement in Brooklyn, NY in the 1980s, is now one of the most recognized female and Latina-owned IT companies in the country. “I’ve long been an admirer of the Anna Maria Arias Foundation and its extraordinary efforts to help Latina entrepreneurs across the country achieve success,” says Spano. “To be recognized by the AMAF and to stand side-by-side with the other honorees, all of whom are inspirational figures to me, was a dream come true.”

One of the contributing factors in the AMAF’s decision to honor Spano is her commitment to giving back to her community. Spano recently founded Stars, Stripes, & Hearts, Inc. (SS&H), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing awareness and financial support to Latino/Hispanic military servicemen and women who are suffering from the invisible wounds of war – Traumatic Brain Injury, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and clinical depression. A major SS&H concert featuring top Latin recording artists is planned for next year in support of culturally competent and evidence-based treatments for Latino/Hispanic military families impacted by these debilitating conditions.

Spano also created the first ever “Virtual Wall of Honor” online photo gallery that allows friends, family and loved ones to upload photos of military veterans in tribute to their service.

The AMAF was created in the spirit of Anna Maria Arias’ vision for Latinas in the business sector celebrating the perseverance and commitment that marked her life. She was a pioneer as a publisher, businesswoman and champion of entrepreneurship.
